Birju Maharaj: Again New Year started with sad news. This news is very sad for all Kathak dancers; all over India, it’s become sad again. The great legend Pandit  Birju Maharaj was passed away at the age of  83 due to a heart attack at his home in Delhi.

Brijmohan Nath Mishra is the full name him and he is simply called Birju Maharaj. He is born in a Hindu brahmin family. He dies on 17 January 2022 in Delhi.  Birju Maharaj is the icon of Indian classical dance.

Legendary Kathak dancer Birju Maharaj was born Brij Mohan Nath Mishra on February 4, 1937. His family is very well known for the Kathak dance. He is called “Maharaj-Ji” quoting his relatives.

He is a very famous master of the kathak. His dance style was very unique and his hands & feet spoke more. Shambhu Maharaj and Lachhu Maharaj are the gurus of Pandit Birju Maharaj, his father Acchan Maharaj also a guru of Pandit Birju Maharaj.

He is a brilliant choreographer and he was helped popularize dance dramas. In 1986 he has got the country’s highest civilian honors’ the Padma Vibhushan.

He got 2 film awards in 2012 – National Film Award for Best Choreography for Unnai Kaanaathu and in 2016 Filmfare Award for Best Choreography for Mohe Rang Do Laal for Bajirao Mastani.
